Because We Lived
Alex N.O.S
This one is for my parents, who are still here. I grew up knowing time was not promised, and nobody ever made a speech about it. It was just there, in the room, at the table.
My father built ways so I could come along and never asked for thanks. My mother heard it before I said a word. We didn't save the living for later: the rides, the voices at the table, the ordinary evenings that turned out to be gold.
I say I won't cry when they go: not because it won't hurt, but because it was full. One day can't take the thousand before it, and they are already in the man I became. Until then, the days are still ours.
